Jeannette Carey Harris

Jeannette Carey Harris, 65, passed away at home on February 26, following a 13 year journey with cancer. Jeannette was born in Key West, Florida to parents George and Ruth Carey, now deceased. A 43-year resident of Colorado Springs, Jeannette gave back to her local community and state in countless ways. With her husband George, she raised 4 children and provided a home and safe haven to many other young people. For decades, she volunteered her time through the Chamber of Commerce, PTA, Hospice and church youth group. She started Colorado Springs' largest Neighborhood Watch group in 1973 and lobbied in the state legislature on behalf of the Women's Resource Agency and the ERA. In 10 years as a Memorial Hospital trauma liaison, she helped hundreds of patients and their families though some of life's darkest hours. She received state recognition and awards for approaching and educating families regarding organ donation. She was also a charter team member for debriefing first responders state wide. With the help of her trusted business partner, Lee Durham, she co-created "LJ Promotional Products" 9 years ago, a very successful and respected promotional products business in the region. Jeannette lives on in the memory of her husband of 45 years, George Harris; their children Laurel Harris of Los Angeles, California, Philip Harris and wife Lori Kingsbury of Denver, Emily Harris and husband Daniel Mog of Seattle, Washington and Ryan Harris of Colorado Springs; 2 grandchildren Caiden and Greyson Harris of Denver. She is preceded in death by her brothers, George Carey, Jr. and James Carey. To share memories of Jeannette, please go to the Choose Hope Facebook Group page. A Memorial Service is planned for March 7, 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church Colorado Springs, 420 North Nevada Avenue. The family suggests attire in memory and honor of Jeannette, not that of a dirge. Donations to offset medical expenses may be made at http://www.jlouproductions.com/jeannette/.
