Marie Francis Obituary

Marie Elizabeth Francis passed away March 2, 2013, at her home in Colorado Springs. She was born on July 12, 1920, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, to Lula and Robert McPherson. Marie met her future husband, Lewis Edward Francis, in Anadarko in 1938. They married November 15, 1939. Marie was the housewife of a career Army officer, she raised two children during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Lewis and Marie arrived in Colorado Springs stationed at Fort Carson in 1961 after extensive military travel including 3 years in Germany. After Lewis retired from the military, Marie and Lewis moved to Fountain, Colorado. Marie worked for a while at a Funeral Home and at Social Services. They continued to live in Fountain, Colorado for 26 years. Lewis and Marie then moved to Surprise, Arizona. Surprise was their home for 13 years before they decided to head back to Colorado Springs in 1999. Marie loved reading, shopping, square dancing, and playing the piano. She especially loved her extended family, keeping a detailed record of the birthdays and ages of all the children so each would get a special present from grandma/great grandma. Marie lives on in the memory of her children, stepson Jack Holmes (Virginia) of Chelan, Washington, Mary Long, of Huntsville, Alabama and Michael Francis (Kathy) of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Kayden Francis, Michael Holmes (Kelli), Kim Nichols, Pam Dickson (Danny), Mitch Holmes, Charlotte Beatty (Don), Rhoda Heeney (Steve), Tim Long (Cindy Murray), Jon Francis (Teresa), Jared Francis, Laura Oakley (Ryan), Christine Araujo, Adam Weisickle and Kaila Francis; great grandchildren, Kyler Nichols, Chelsea and Jack Dickson, Riley and Charlotte Holmes, Mollee, Benjamin, Levi, and Bethanee Heeney, Tristan Beatty, Gabriel and Audryanna Oakley, Wylie and Lucy Francis and Emma Araujo. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis. A reception to celebrate Marie's life is planned at the home of her son, Michael Francis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pikes Peak Hospice or your charity of choice.
