Bertha C. McKerlie (Corder), 87, born January 23, 1918 in Zion, IL, went to be with her Lord January 7, 2006. Previously from Jupiter, FL, she has lived in Colorado Springs for the past 6 years. Being deaf most of her life, she was an amazing woman. Deafness never stopped her from living a full life. With her uncanny ability to read lips, she worked as a waitress at the Zion Dairy and many other jobs. She was last employed by the public school system in Florida as a baker from which she retired in 1980. She touched the lives of many people and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by three sons: Gene (Esther) McKerlie of Costa Rica; Jack (Susan) McKerlie of Port St. Lucie, FL; Dr. Victor (Claudia) McKerlie of Prescott, AZ; and one daughter, Myra (Gilbert) Perez of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters: Julie (Bill) Perry of Barrington, IL; Betty (Harold)Ruesch of Zion, IL; and two brothers: Chuck (Millie) Corder of Wadsworth, IL and Rick (Pia) of Gurnee, IL; also 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Cecil McKerlie, in 1990; a son, Larry McKerlie in 1999; a stepson, Norman McKerlie in 1996; two sisters: Caroline Graham and Dorothy Myrum; one brother, Robert Corder; her father, Robert G. Corder and her mother, Bertha Hill (Corder) (Mole). A service will be held Tuesday, January 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, CO. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park, Tequesta, FL, next to her husband and son. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice.
