Michael James Dassero

Michael James Dassero, 66, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013. He was born on July 6, 1947 in Norfolk, Nebraska to parents Philip and Dorothy Dassero.

Mike was a graduate of Palmer High School in 1965. He went on to serve proudly in the United States Navy for 20 years as a Radioman and then as a Master at Arms, retiring in 1985.

After the military he continued with a career in law enforcement. First with the Alamosa, Colorado Sheriff's Department and then moving to California where he served with the Stanton Police Department, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, and finally with the Coronado Police Department where he was named Officer of the Year in 1990. An on the job injury prematurely ended his law enforcement career and he was forced to retire in 1992. He moved back to Colorado Springs in 1997.

Mike became interested in Amateur Radio and obtained his license while living in San Diego, California. He and his call sign N0MUD, are well known and he had many wonderful friends in the ham radio community. He was a charter member of the Hammin' Sams Chapter of the Good Sam RV Club; where he enjoyed camping, promoting ham radio and meeting new people.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sherrie; his brother, Tim Dassero; his daughters
Michelle Huber, Tammy Lent and Linda Byerline; ten grandchildren: Philip Huber, Steven Huber, Jeffrey Huber, Cassandra VanOrd, Joseph Lent Jr., Rebekah Lent, Gabrielle Lent, Michael Byerline Jr., Jacob Byerline, Sarah Byerline, and one great grandchild, Jonathan VanOrd.

He was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Dorothy and his brother Rick.

Mike's ashes have been released to the United States Navy in San Diego, California where he will be buried at sea. A memorial service in his honor will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, 1:30 p.m. at VFW Post 4051, 430 E. Pikes Peak Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
