Wilma Marie Carpenter

Wilma M. Carpenter, 92, peacefully passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 19, 2012, at her home in Canon City, CO, where she lived with and was cared for by her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Bill Henson. Wilma was born in Weiser, ID, to Robert and Emma (Haaland) Anderson. Her siblings included sisters Elsie, Edna, and Fern, and brother Harry. She grew up in Payette, ID, where she graduated high school and attended beauty college. During a short career as a hair stylist, Wilma met a young soldier and the love of her life, Kenneth R. Carpenter, in Salt Lake City, UT where they married October 3, 1943. Eventually they made their permanent home in Colorado Springs, CO where they raised their five children. Wilma worked and retired as head cook at Stratton Meadows Elementary School, District #2. Traveling, camping and fishing with family and friends were activities Wilma enjoyed. She excelled at sewing, quilting, embroidery, cooking and baking, all of which truly blessed her family, friends and church family. She loved to constantly redecorate, moving the furniture, wallpapering, and painting; participating in all activities at the church which she and Ken helped start, the Stratmoor Hills United Methodist Church; reading, doing crossword puzzles, writing and receiving cards and letters; and playing games, scabble and cards. Wilma put so much love into everything she did, and it showed. She was good, kind, generous, witty, fun, and was loved and appreciated by all who knew her well. Wilma is survived by and will be greatly missed by her sister Edna and husband Floyd Carpenter (Ken's brother), Calhan, CO; sons Robert (Barbara), Woodland Park, CO; Gary (Angel) and Dennis (Elizabeth), both of Ramah, CO; daughters Kay (Dan) Morris, Weatherford, TX, and Nancy (Bill) Henson, Canon City, CO; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by husband Ken in 2007, her other three siblings, a granddaughter Stephanie Carpenter, and nieces Barbara Gigray and Sandy Bertram. The family is deeply grateful to all those from Sangre de Cristo Hospice West who provided such loving care during the last several months. Special thanks to Carly; like Grandma, we love you! Visitation will be at the Stratmoor Hills United Methodist Church, 1705 Cheyenne Meadows Road, Colorado Springs, CO on Monday, November 26, 2012, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will be immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
