Franklin Conway Obituary

LTC Franklin M. Conway, U.S. Army (Ret.) age 85, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011 at his home. He had retired on December 1, 1968 after 22 years with the Military Police Corps. and later, again retired after 37 years as a real estate broker with Trust Realty. Franklin Martin Conway was born on January 5, 1926 in Sunnyside, Florida to the late, Rev. James F. and Idella "Dolly" (Minton) Conway. He was a 1943 graduate of Clay County High School in Green Cove Springs, Florida. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served in both Germany and Korea. He attended college at University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Frank married Phyllis Ann Smith on November 30, 1968 at Fort Carson, Colorado. Phyllis passed away on June 21, 2011. He was a member of MOAA, both locally and nationally; Pikes Peak Sertoma and had served as its President; and was an avid Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos fan. He is survived by his son: Larry Conway of Longmont, Colorado; his daughter: Alexa Conway of Spokane, Washington; his stepson: Patric (wife, Carol) Richards of Santee, California; a stepdaughter: Rhonda Shamburger of Arlington, Texas and a stepson Donald "Chip" and (wife, Kevin) Richards of Colorado Springs. He has six wonderful grandchildren: Dennis, Carey, Jenny, Hayden, Brandon and Amy; and seven great-grandchildren. Frank and Phyllis claimed all of the members of this large, combined family as theirs and dearly loved them all. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel. Cremation is planned and his urn will be placed in the Shrine of Remembrance Veterans Honor Court Columbarium. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 S. Union Boulevard. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1586 S. 21st Street, Suite 10, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904. Blessed be his memory.
