Born the second of ten children in Brainerd, MN. In 1957 he won appointments to the Air Force and Naval Academies. He chose the AF in order to become a pilot. He graduated in 1961 in the top ten of his class, was the class president and wing commander and captain of the golf team. He was an Olmsted and Rhodes Scholar candidate. He flew the C-118 in New York, Vietnam, and Belgium. He received a masters degree in economics from Northwestern University and taught economics at the Air Force Academy. He is survived by his sons, Mike, Mark, and Eric. A great friend and classmate, he will be missed by all.
