Alice Bruns Obituary

Alice Ruth Bruns was born to Immanuel and Olga (Kramp) Holtzen on March 27th, 1930 in Davenport, NE. She attended Lutheran Parochial School in Davenport while working on her dad's farm. At 16 she moved to Deshler to work in The Broom Factory. Alice soon seized the opportunity to work as a housekeeper for the factory owner. She continued there until she married Arnold Bruns on June 20th, 1948. They remained married for 55 years, until his death in 2003.

After making their home in Hebron, NE, they moved to Cheyenne, WY, in 1956, then to Colorado Springs in 1963. They joined Immanuel Lutheran Church and sent their four sons to the parochial school there. She helped in Arnold's construction business with bookkeeping and home cleaning. After Arnold's retirement they took up part-time residence in Mesa, AZ, for a number of years, until Arnold's passing, when Alice stayed in Colorado Springs.

Alice is survived by sons Dennis (Rebecca), Ronald (Jean), Donald (Carol), and Dale; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and expected twin great-grandchildren; siblings Velma, Irvin, Lester, and Mabel; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her life-long friend Lloyd Rupprecht, who accompanied Alice during her memory loss.

She is preceded in death by siblings Bernice and Edgar, and daughter-in-law Kay.

Alice loved and served her Lord and Savior through her hospitality, organizational skills, and being a great and compassionate listener. She volunteered in the church, helping produce Braille Bibles, serving on Altar Guild, and helping with school activities, and always being on the cleanup committees. She loved collecting bird-themed knickknacks, embroidery, and traveling with Arnold to see new things. Alice was proud of her descendants' accomplishments, always sharing news of them with her friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. A memorial service will be held at the church, located at 848 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, at 11:30 on Thursday, April 24.
