Andrew was born on August 4, 1928 in Shabuta, Mississippi to Ezra and Magnolia Bumpers. He was the youngest of seven children and later in life worked as a carpenter before joining the military.
He went from living in a small town to traveling all over the world before finally retiring as a Command Sgt. Major and settling in Colorado Springs. He then went on to become a highly successful entrepreneur in Colorado Springs and was not only a man of the community, but a servant of the Friendship Baptist Church.
Andrew was cherished by his three children; William Bumpers, Elizabeth Bumpers and stepson Michael Powell.
A wake will be held for Andrew from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, August 21st at Evergreen Funeral Home and a funeral service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 11:00am, Friendship Baptist Church with a burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

I was looking at my old phone and found the phone number of Mr. Bumper. I was with my friend, Frederick, when we met Mr. Bumper. My friend was clearly needing help getting around (he had kidney failure and was experiencing side effects.) Andrew didn't hesitate to approach us and offer assistance. He was able to provide my friend with, I recall, a cane or walker. I was sad Mr. Bumper has passed, but I'm certain he has gone on to his heavenly home. He clearly walked this earth as a servant of THE MOST HIGH. What a blessing to us all that GOD has given us men like him.

Brother Bumpers always had a soft smile and a polite compliment for me whenever I saw him. Its not been easy seeing people so dear to my childhood being called home. I miss my church home because it keeps memories alive and instead of them fading they grow into legacies. To Mr. Andrew Bumpers' family~ I send my condolences on behalf of our late Aunt Ruth Easter and late Grandma Faye Foley. From the grandkids Nicole, Jennifer, & Tommy

To the Bumpers Family, it is with a heavy heart I send my deepest condolence. Bro Bumpers was truly a Man after Gods on Heart. Just the way he was so willing to help in any way possible. As the City Wide Brotherhood Historian, he was such a great asset to the body of men for many many years. Bro Bumpers you will surly be missed. Thanks for your service now he can rest and get his reward.
In his service

Brother. Bumper was truly a son of Christ, a family man. He always had a loving, kind, warm smile on his face. A gentle spirited Christian, that hard to find, I shall miss him.
Bumper family, thank you for sharing this sweet angle from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Uncle Andy, Oh how I loved you.
As a small child, I always said I was going to grow up and marry you! Your deep voice and oh that very special laugh! God speed to you my uncle and tell my family hello for me. You were always special to them as well.

My uncle Sunnie Andrew Bumpers. I love you so much. Uncle Sunnie would come to Mississippi every summer and stay with me and my husband Otis Bumpers Jr. We always had a great time. When he would get to Ms. I would have his favorite food cook and ready him to eat. His bed, towels and everything he needed would be ready for him to arrive and what a time we would have. I miss my uncle so much. Rest in peace. Rosie Bumpers, 601-310-8007
