Anita Louise Higbee Dobbin died in Colorado Springs surrounded by her family on April10, 2014. She died after a long battle with colon cancer. She was 73 years-old. There will never be another like her.
Anita's death leaves an enormous void in the lives of her family and friends. Those who loved her find it very difficult to contemplate a world without her as they relied so much upon her sage advice, unwavering support, and the soothing warmth of her friendship. Indeed, all who knew her recognized that she was a unique and extraordinary force. Anita was strong, and her presence was impossible to ignore. When asked to quiet down, Anita spoke louder. And no one was ever confused about Anita's stance on anything. Nor was there ever any confusion about the goodness in her core: Anita had a heart of gold, and brought so much happiness to the lives of others and that is precisely what made her happy.
Born on February 5, 1941 in Arkansas City, KS to Delbert and Maxine Higbee, Anita was raised on a farm in Western Kansas near Tribune along with her little sister, Susan Lee. After graduating from Greeley County High School, Anita went to Kansas State Teacher's College at Emporia, KS where she received a degree in English. She taught school for one year near Lincoln, NE. Anita married Richard Dobbin on November 22, 1962 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1964 where they raised their children, Derrick Higbee Dobbin and Monica Lynne Dobbin. (Though Anita and Richard Dobbin were later divorced, they remained supportive friends until Anita's death.)
With her gregarious personality, Anita could not help but be very active in her community. Among many other involvements, she was a member of Junior League, loved tennis and was a member of several bridge clubs.
Anita loved to travel. She loved fishing in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Texas as well as taking in the culture of metropolitan cities such as New York, Las Vegas and London. She wanted to see it all, and came pretty close to achieving that goal. Anita was also a fanatical Broncos fan and only missed games when important events required her presence or attention. But, whether traveling, sitting in Mile High Stadium or at home in front of her television, Anita always found that she was most content when surrounded by good friends, good food (she was a wonderful cook!) and old country music. Anita Dobbin will be missed forever by her family and dear friends who are united in their certainty that there will never be another like her.
Anita was preceded in death by daughter, Dana, and parents, Delbert and Maxine Higbee.
She is survived by son, Derrick (Reiko) of Lakewood, CO, daughter Monica Bricker, (Tony) of Colorado Springs, sister, Susan Simpson (Rick) of Colorado Springs, grandchildren, Mia and Mikaela Dobbin of Lakewood, CO, Sophia and Caroline Bricker of Colorado Springs and nephews, Tron Simpson of Colorado Springs and Mason Simpson of Lincroft, New Jersey, niece, Tanya Kelly and nephews, Steve Tartamella and Scott Tartamella all from California.
Services will be at the Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Ave., at 11:00 am, where Anita was member, on May 3, 2014.
A celebration of Anita's life party will follow the service. lnurnment will be in the Meditation Glen at the church.

No words are sufficient to express condolences for the passing of a woman so precious to so many. The loss of a wife and Mother is especially difficult and so my good thoughts and prayers are with the family and through out this grieving time.
