Annabelle D. Kanis ("Ann") passed away early on Friday morning, December 28, 2012. Ann was born in Wheeler Township, Iowa on March 7, 1931. She grew up in George Iowa where she graduated from George High School. Ann married Herman A. Kanis on June 22nd 1949 and was his loving wife for 62 years until his death in June 2011. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1962 where she raised her only son. Ann is survived by her son Jeffrey and sisters Toby Jacobs, Patty Mitchell and Mary Gregory. Ann had a quest for knowledge and teaching others all her life. Her key studies were in Biology, Chemistry, Religions and Spirituality. She taught in public school for many years at Watson Junior High School, in Widefield Colorado and continued teaching adult classes on Kabbalah after her retirement . Ann touched the lives of many students who have continued to stay in touch with her over the years. Ann received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Colorado State college in 1966 and Master of Arts degree from Western State College in 1971. She was a member of Gateway Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday December 31 at Gateway Presbyterian Church, 731 Castle Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80904. In lieu of flowers Ann requested donations be made to Gateway Presbyterian Church.
