Bertha Casilda Atencio (Valdez) age 92 went to be home with the Lord Saturday February 16, 2013. She passed away at Life Care Center of Colorado Springs where she had resided since June 2012. She was born June 12, 1920 in San Luis, CO to Eloy Valdez and Celia (Olivas) Valdez. She was a great woman who led an amazing life as matriarch of such a large and loving family. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. Left to cherish her loving memory are five children, 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and ten great, great grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Cordilia (Ted) Roybal, Patricia (Jake) Gonzales, Orlinda Pieratt, daughter-in-law Betty J. Atencio, two sons, Rudy (Dona) Atencio and Joseph Atencio. Preceding her in death were husbands, Manuel E. Manzanares (February 16, 1946) and Felipe "Ta-Ta" Atencio (November 18, 2004) two daughters, Louise J. Lopez, Anna E. Voigt, son Richard E. Atencio and two great grandsons. Other survivors include her great niece, Juanita Burke, Arvada, CO, sister, Ida Martinez of Clinton, Utah, brothers Ernesto (Alice) Valdez of San Luis, and Rudy (Jane) Valdez of Colorado Springs plus a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation 5:00pm to 7:00pm followed by a rosary at 7:00pm Friday February 22 at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs, CO. A 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 23 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1539 E. Yampa Street, Colorado Springs, CO followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO A reception following burial rites will be held from noon to 3:00pm at the Divine Redeemer Catholic Church Community Center, 1539 E. Yampa Street. The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff at Life Care Center, Colorado Springs for their excellent and loving care and support.
