Carolyn Staab Carpenter Obituary
Carolyn Staab Carpenter, 70, of Colorado Springs, CO, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, in her home.

Carolyn was born August 22, 1943, in Hays, KS, to Alex L. and Gladys A. (Ross) Staab. In 1961, she graduated from St. Mary's High School in Colorado Springs and married Merle Max Carpenter. She earned her bachelor's in 1989 and MBA in 1991.

She was the office manager at Economy Tire in the 1970s, Coordinator of Administrative Services at Regis University for fourteen years, and ran her own bookkeeping business (Minding Your Business) from 1996 until retirement. She was a volunteer for CASA, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the Cheyenne Mountain branch library.

Carol was a neat person, a voracious reader (her favorites were giggle books, as she called them), ink crossword whiz, bowler, and photographer, taking pictures as she and Max traveled with stock cars and their motorcycle. She entered her photography in juried competitions. She and Max raised four pedigreed Pekingese dogs, and Izzy, a rescue dog, was her companion the last seven years.

Her husband and parents pre-deceased her. She is survived by sons Merle Scott (Tammy) Carpenter of Helena, MT, and Jay Carpenter of Sudbury, VT; sisters Jan (Mike) Mullin of SD, Mimi (Jim) McKinney of NM, and Paula (Jerry) DeSalvo of Fountain; grandchildren Michael, Cherie, Casey, Devin, and Alex; great-grands Mikayla, Brylan, Jenna, Alexandria, Madison, Danielle, and Tiara; niece Annie, and nephews Tim, Brian, Jason, and Billy.

In deference to Carolyn's wishes, no funeral will be held. An open house for friends and family will take place December 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. For information, email

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Pikes Peak Hospice, Pikes Peak Library District, or CASA.
