Cindy Lee Burtis-Brown, long-time resident of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 10, 2013 at the age of 57. Born June 25, 1955 in La Junta, Colorado, to Juanita and Jose Gonzalez, Cindy was raised by her grandparents, Emma and Max Sanchez, among many aunts and uncles: Robert, Lydia, Lucy, Gilbert, David, Elsie, Katie, Helen and Dale. A 1973 graduate of La Junta High School, she continued her education at UNC-Greeley, then graduated in 1978 from CSU-Fort Collins with a bachelor's degree in English. Cindy enjoyed singing and was a member of several choirs in her life including the Colorado Springs Song-Spinners. In the recent years, she flexed her vocal cords singing Karaoke. Cindy married Robert Burtis in 1976 and they had three children together: Brian, Caitlin, and Matthew "Jockey". Cindy married Marvin Brown in 1993, and last January 9th celebrated 20 years of marriage. Cindy is survived by her husband, Marvin; children: Brian (Michelle), Caitlin and Matthew; Robert, Lucy, Gilbert, David and Dale; many close cousins; and Jose Gonzalez. She is preceded in death by her mother, Juanita "Jenny" Foster; and her grandparents, Emma "Manca" and Max; as well her aunts: Lydia, Elsie, Katie and Helen. Memorial services were held at the family home on March 24, 2013. Thanks to the many family, friends and neighbors who attended this celebration, and blessings to those who could not.
