David D. Penman departed this world on December 21, 2012, in Columbia, Mo. David retired from the City of Colorado Springs Utilities after 40 years of service as a linesman and Electric Distribution Control Operator. He also served two years in the U.S. Army's Quartermaster Corp in Fort Lee, Va. David graduated from Manitou High School in 1957 and lived most of his life in Manitou Springs. He married his wife (Arlene) of 52 years at the Community Congregational Church. He coached YAL football and was active in the Manitou Springs Volunteer Fire Department in his younger years. Fly fishing, traveling, watching the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies, and his grandchildren were what he enjoyed most in recent years. One of the highlights of his retirement was watching Game 7 of the 2011 World Series with his son from the best seats in the Stadium. He was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Vera (Bader) Penman. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; two children, Shawn Penman of Albuquerque, N.M. and Scott (Amy Gossett) Penman of Columbia Mo. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Evangeline Arlene and David Alexander of Columbia, Mo. These two grandchildren brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Sterling and Pat Penman of Fort Mohave, Ariz; brother and sister in-laws, Phil & Cathy Karr of Manitou Springs and Scott and Doris Hendricks of Manitou Springs. He enjoyed his seven grand-nieces and nephews and their fourteen children. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 29, at 10:30 AM at the Community Congregational Church, 103 Pawnee Avenue, Manitou Springs. The family has requested no flowers but remembrances can be sent to Fountain Creek Restoration Project c/o Pikes Peak Community Foundation 730 N. Nevada Ave. Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
