McCracken, Kansas-Dorothy Doucet Guidry, age 80, a long time resident of Colorado Springs and manager and artisan at Michael Garman Gallery, passed away at her home in McCracken, Kansas on November 16, 2013.|
She was born August 2, 1933 in Lafayette, Louisiana, the daughter of Jean and Olivia (Dugas) Doucet.
On May 20, 1951, she married Lester J. Guidry. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2002.
Dorothy and her family moved to Colorado Springs in 1970. She spent her early years in the Springs assisting her husband establish the downtown Forward School of Mountaineering.
In 1973 she joined Michael Garman in Manitou Springs moving with him and his gallery to Old Colorado City. During her over twenty years of fun and loyal association, she worked as an artist and eventually became a manager, traveling the country showcasing Mr. Garman's work. Dorothy also served as an away from home mom for numerous members of the Air Force Academy Mountaineering Club.
In addition to her support for Academy cadets, she and her entire family remained staunch supporters of the military and veterans. In later years, Dorothy served as president of the women's auxiliary at Felix-Ducrest American Legion Post 69 in Lafayette.
She is survived by her daughter, Charmaine (Robert) Wolfe, McCracken, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Lester Guidry Jr.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held 11:00 am, Nov 23, 2013 at the McCracken City Building, McCracken, KS. At 11:00 the Rosary will be recited in French, followed by shared memories and a reception.
