Evelyn W. Anderson, age 82, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker. Evelyn Erma Wood was born on January 11,1926 at Bethel Hospital in Colorado Springs to the late Joseph Pembrook "Pem" and Irma Moak Wood. She was a 1944 graduate of Colorado Springs High School. She worked at her father's drug store (Alley Drug), Hibbards and the Telephone Company during World War II. She later married Richard Strang Anderson on February 15,1948 in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Anderson was past president of the Letter Carriers Auxiliary (both local and state chapters), was active in the Christian Women's Club South, the Colorado Springs High School Alumni Association and First Christian Church. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 60 years: Richard S. Anderson; her daughters: Suzy (husband, Ken) Gingrich and Karen Anderson, both of Colorado Springs; and son–in-law Frank Pilkington of Denver, Colorado; her grandchildren: Stephanie (husband, Tim ) VanMeter of Fort Myers, Florida; Kenny Gingrich of Gunnison, Colorado; Andy (wife, Jenn) Pilkington of Avon, Ohio; Kelly Pilkington of Denver, Colorado; Noah Hensley (partner Billy Clifton) of Colorado Springs; and Nick (wife, Tricia) Hensley of Grand Junction, Colorado. Also surviving her are her great-grandchildren: Alex, Kasey, Danica, Graham, Evan, Paige, Felicity and Aaron. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her daughter Mary L. Pilkington in 1990. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at First Christian Church, 16 E. Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Private entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels. Memorials in Evelyn's name may be made to the Children's Music Department of First Christian Church.
