SGT Mitchell was born in Mitchellville, Maryland on 11/24/1916 to the late George and Susan (Harrison) Mitchell. SGT Mitchell left us to be with the Lord on 09/30/13. SGT Mitchell began his career of service to his country in 1941, facing the enemy in the European-African and Middle Eastern Campaigns of WWII.

After victory in Europe, he remained stationed in Germany where he met and married the love of his life, Marianne Reitz.

While in Germany, two sons were born, James and Harrison, Jr. Upon return to the U.S. in 1955, the Mitchell's were stationed in Ft. Riley, Kansas. Shortly after, their daughter, Sylvana, was born.

After 21 years of military service, SGT. Mitchell retired and the family relocated to Colorado Springs, CO. SGT. Mitchell then began an 18 year career in civil service.

He was preceded in death by his son Harrison, Jr.; survived by his wife of 58 years, Marianne, children: James, Sylvana (Clyde), and grandchildren Lauren, Cameron and Evan.

He was dearly loved and will be missed by many. A special thank you to the staff at Laurel Manor for their loving and compassionate care.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 7th from 5 to 8 PM at Swan-Law Funeral Directors - 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, October 8th at 1:00 PM, St. Mary Cathedral - 22 W. Kiowa St., Colorado Springs followed by military honors at Shrine of Remembrance - Veteran's Honor Court.
