A lifelong sports enthusiast and outdoorsman, Jay Gospill taught physical education for nearly 30 years, starting out at Wildflower Elementary, while also coaching football at Harrison and Colorado College, then relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1990. He spent his entire career teaching at the elementary-and middle-school levels and helped thousands of children learn how to stay healthy and positive through exercise.

Jay graduated from Manitou Springs High School in 1976 and earned his bachelor's degree in education from University of Northern Colorado in 1982. In addition to his son Tom, survivors include sisters Sue Gospill and Jane Majeske.

To celebrate his life, family and friends will be attending Manitou's homecoming game on Friday, October 11. His ashes will be scattered on Saturday, with a dinner reception to follow.

Please consider sharing his love of football by making a donation in his memory to the Jay Gospill Memorial Scholarship Fund at Manitou Springs High School, 401 El Monte Place, Manitou Springs, CO 80829.
