John (Jack) Leonard passed peacefully in Colorado Springs and went to meet our Lord on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the age of 81.

Jack , beloved husband of the late Elisabeth (Betty) Leonard, loving father of Angelika and her husband, Michael Byrne, grandfather of Andrea Lindsley and Melissa Lucia, and great-grandfather of Hailey Lindsley; beloved son of the late Helen Leonard; brother of Jane DelTufo, the late Donna Roche, and the late Albert Petrilli Jr; devoted nephew of the late John and Esther Gover; beloved cousin of the late Thomas Gover and his wife Patricia, Patricia Gover, Barbara Johnson, and John Gover Jr; dear friend of Marlies Heinz and Hannelore and Donald Schultz.
Jack was born in Boston, MA where he joined the US Army after finishing high school. He spent more than 24 years on active duty as a Combat Engineer and served in Korea and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was also stationed at various US Army posts and in Germany where he met his future wife Betty, his soul mate. Shortly before retiring in 1975, Jack was selected for promotion to Sergeant Major. Jack started working for the Colorado Department of Corrections in 1975 in Canon City and then in Buena Vista, where he retired as a Major in 1994. Jack and Betty bought a beautiful home in Monument, CO which they used as their base camp while travelling throughout the US and Europe.
Services will be held at St. Peter's Church in Monument, CO, on Saturday April 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM.
Inurnment will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, in Denver, CO.
