It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lonnie E. Brooks. Lonnie passed on Sunday, October 20, 2013 in the comfort of his family.|
He was a 30 year resident of Colorado Springs and long time Butcher/Market Manager with King Soopers and then Manager with Walmart, until his retirement in 2010.
Lonnie was born on September 8, 1946 in Wheatland, Wyoming to Robert R. and Helen J. Brooks, his family moved to Lubbock, Texas where he spent his childhood and then played football at Texas Tech University.
He met the love of his life, Sherril McBroom, on New Year's Eve of 1969 and they were married November 14th, 1970, in Houston, Texas.
An avid Broncos fan, and sports fan in general. He loved fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and spoiling his granddaughters. He was loved by all who knew him, he was kind and gentle. He was a truly amazing man. He loved life and lived for the moment. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Sherril; his daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Paul Hofmann; his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Heather Brooks; granddaughters Hailey and Faith Brooks; mother Helen Brooks; sister Bobette Starnes; brother Gregory Brooks; and many other cherished family members.
A visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance, "America the Beautiful" Chapel at 1730 E. Fountain Blvd.
