Marian Rice McHugh, age 89, passed away January 5, 2013 at a local memory care facility. She was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1967. Marian was born in Wyatt, West Virginia on February 6, 1923 to Carl D. and Mary Hess Rice. Marian served in the USN during WW II in the Hospital Corp. where she met and married Ernest (Mac) McHugh on November 9, 1945. Mac predeceased Marian in 2011. Marian attended Akron University and the University of Nebraska to study music. Mac and Marian had five children Edmund (Linda), Ernest (Janelle),Eugene (Mary), Evan (Kim), and Maureen (Dexter). Marian was an accomplished musician and taught piano for 30 years. She was a member of PEO and the accompanist for several community theater group productions in Spencer and Ottumwa, Iowa; and in Colorado Springs. She was a devoted member the 1st Presbyterian Church. She served as deacon, circle group leader in women's fellowship, choir member, volunteer teacher for the children's Get Set program, and accompanist for church activities. Marian is survived by her five children; seven grandchildren Randolph Heath, Ashley, Shenae, Megan, Eric, Tiffany, and Trisha; and three great grandchildren Christian, Caleb, and Caydin. A memorial church service is planned for March 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to the Colorado Springs 1st Presbyterian Church.
