Marvin Carl Battcher, 77, a 16-year Colorado Springs resident, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 4, 2013. He was born on September 19, 1935, in Ontario, California, the son of Carl and Margaret Battcher. After graduating from high school and serving in the U.S. Navy, he went on to earn his BS degree from the California State University at Fresno, and a law degree in 1972 from Western State University in Fullerton, CA. He married Phyllis Chambers on June 18, 1955, in Ontario. He spent the majority of his career in executive management positions with the Allstate Insurance Company, moving his family to eight different locations around the nation. While living in Libertyville, Illinois, he served as a city trustee. After retiring in Colorado Springs, Marvin became a very active member of First Presbyterian church, serving as an elder and Clerk of the Session. A friend and mentor to many, he also helped form the church's Prime Time senior ministry program and volunteered with the parking ministry. He also volunteered at the Better Business Bureau and served as board chairman of the Hope and Home foster care agency. He enjoyed skiing, reading and gardening. Marvin is survived by his wife, Phyllis; and three children: Dwight Marvin (Sheri) of Brooklyn, Connecticut; Denise Michelle Hough (Steve) of Colorado Springs; and Duane Michael (Kathy) of Louisville, Kentucky. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Lowell C. Battcher (Barbara) of Pacific Grove, California. In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by a grandson. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on January 11, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou Street with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to The Navigators, Young Life, Hope and Home or the Greenhouse ministry at First Presbyterian Church.
