Merrill W. Harper beloved husband and father passed away peacefully February 23, 2013 in Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 84. He was born in Hartwell, Georgia on January 9, 1929, the first of two boys born to the late Ernest and Mae Harper. Merrill graduated from Hartwell High School in 1944. After graduation he went to North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia, where he joined the ROTC. While he was there he earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics and a Minor in engineering. In 1948 the Department of Army commissioned him as a Second Lieutenant and was called to active duty. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars where he served his country proudly and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Col. In August 2012, he had a book published about a battle that he fought at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea. He retired from the Military in 1970 and real estate in 1994 and lived in Falcon, CO with his wife Jule. Family and friends were extremely important in his life. He always had a smile on his face and made friends everywhere he went. He leaves behind his only son, John and nephews Frank and John Rhodes in Georgia. He is preceded in death by his daughter Julie and wife Jule. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 1:00pm at Church of St. Michael's the Archangel, 7400 Tudor Road, Colorado Springs, CO.
