Mildred Lititia Anderson (nee Spencer) passed away at age 107 at Hildebrand Care Center in Canon City, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, her father and mother, James and Anne Mary Spencer, five brothers and three sisters. Mildred is survived by daughters, Joan J. Watson (Robert) of Mason City, Iowa, Judith A. Papantonis (Anthony) of Westcliffe, Colorado and Patricia Pierce (Norman) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Jeane McGinn, (Jon), Kathy McGillavray (Mac), Patti Watson, Bill Watson (Kathy), Deb Delzer (Daryl), David Page (Mecca), Patrick Page (Cindy), Dan Pierce (Karen), Andy Pierce (Karla; eleven great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was born on December 12, 1905 in West Bend, Iowa. She was a member and pianist of the Little Log Church in Palmer Lake, Colorado and a Charter member of the Palmer Lake Art Group. Mildred had a passion for teaching and was nominated for Colorado teacher of the year in 1969. At age 17 she started teaching in a one room school house in Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. She taught school at the Palmer Lake Elementary School and was the composer of the Palmer Lake School Song, retiring in 1972. Mildred received many awards for her services to the Palmer Lake Community and in 2005 was awarded The Senior Award in Colorado Springs for her contributions to the elderly. She had many hobbies and was most proud of the many handmade doilies she made, which were sent all over the world. We would like to thank everyone at the Hildebrand Care Center for all their loving care given to our Mother. Viewing will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors Tuesday, August 27, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Graveside services take place at Monument Cemetery, Wednesday, August 28, 11:00 am.
