Roger Dockum Obituary
Chief MSgt. Roger R. Dockum, age 80, passed away on Thursday October 31, 2013 at a local hospital.

He was a longtime resident of Colorado Springs and formerly of Pueblo, Colorado. He was a journeyman refrigeration specialist and had retired from the United State Army after more than 30 years as an instructor of refrigeration. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and great-grandfather.



Roger Ralph Dockum was born on May 29, 1933 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to the late Ralph C and Marrieta (Stevens) Dockum. He attended Centennial High School in Pueblo and UCCS in Colorado Springs. He married Marian Stonestreet on December 9, 1956 in Pueblo. He was stationed all over the world with varying assignments in the United States Army. He was a member of Refrigeration Fitters Service Industry Association and a journeyman with Colorado Springs Union Local Number 58. He was active in the First Baptist Church. He was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout volunteer and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Roger enjoyed gardening, drawing, leathercrafts, and building high school drama sets for the Fountain-Fort Carson School District. He enjoyed helping others and will be best remembered for his love of family.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Dockum of Colorado Springs; his mother, Marrieta Swecker of Denver, Colorado; his son Roger Franklin (Eva Jean) Dockum of Sanford, Florida; daughters: Laura Shanahan of Denver, Suzanne (Robert) Isaac of Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; and son, Richard Ralph Dockum of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by a brother, Leonard (Joyce) Dockum of Maslick, Kentucky. He has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, his sister, Shirlene Young, and two granddaughters.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at First Baptist Church, 317 East Kiowa Street, Colorado Springs 80903. Cremation is planned. Graveside services with Army Honors will be held Thursday, November 7 at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials in his name may be made to the First Baptist Church.
