Bill died at Penrose Hospital after a sudden fatal heart attack, with his family at his side. He suffered so much pain in life, now he is at peace. After retiring from retail sales in 1999, he focused on his many passions: his yard; travel with his wife, always finding interesting places to visit; searching for treasures in the thrift shops; playing the slot machines at any casino he passed. He enjoyed card games with friends and playing Santa to all the children who were drawn to him. Lively debates of religion and politics were common. He is survived by his wife of fifty years Martha, sons William III and Richard of Colorado Springs, his grandson William IV of Colorado Springs, a brother Albert of Trinidad and a sister Cheryl Patrick of Westminster, also many dear nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents William E. and Lilly Crismon Barksdale. The family is hosting a gathering at the family home, 1814 Francis Place, Colorado Springs on Saturday, November 24 from 11am to 5pm to share memories and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of the Florissant Fossil Beds, P.O. Box 185, Florissant, CO 80816, or on the web site www.fossilbeds.org/contribute.
