Major Douglas A. La Bouff died while serving his country on January 8, 2006, in a helicopter crash outside of Tal Afar, Iraq. Doug was born on June 28, 1969 in Baldwin Pare, CA, the fourth son and fifth child of Charles and Lela La Bouff. Doug grew up in La Puente, CA and graduated High School from Bishop Amat Catholic High School. He attended Whittier College in Whittier, CA, earning a Bachelor's Degree in History and California State University in Fullerton, CA where he earned a Master's Degree in American History. In 1995 Doug was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Shortly after being commissioned in the Army, Doug married his longtime love, Karen Koh, of La Puente, CA on August 19, 1995. During Doug's 11 year Army career he served our country with honor in South Korea (two tours), Ft. Huachuca, AZ, Ft. Irwin, CA, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Peterson AFB, CO, FT Carson, CO and most recently with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Iraq. While Doug maintained a highly decorated career as an officer serving our country, his first true passion was his wife and children. Our country has lost a great patriot, husband, father and friend. He will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched. Doug is survived by his wife, Karen La Bouff; daughter (7); son (3); mother, Lela Kerr-La Bouff; brothers: Charles, George and James and sister, Teresa. Memorial Services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church: 3122 Poinsettia Dr. Colorado Springs on Friday at 4:00 p.m. Internment will be in Rowland Heights, CA at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
