Charles Delano Jasper, decorated veteran and patriot, passed away on May 9, 2013 due to medical complications. A beloved husband and brother, a dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather, Charlie was quick to smile, and a friend to all who knew him. Charlie was born on November 15, 1933 in Moline, Illinois to Charles and Margaret Jasper. His career of service began when he joined the Air Force in 1954 and ended when he retired from the Civil Service in 1994. After transferring to the Army as a chief warrant officer in 1970, he served a tour in Vietnam. Charlie married Ingrid Gertrude Schoernack in the town of Ramstein, Germany on October 31, 1956, and again in the base chapel on November 17, 1956. They were blessed with 112 anniversaries in 56 years of marriage. A standout athlete, Charlie's accomplishments on the handball, racquetball and tennis courts, along with many other sports, earned him the nickname, "Poncho Gonzáles" across the armed forces bases of the world. Charlie is survived by his wife, Ingrid, sisters Beverly and Shirley, sons Axel and Charles, daughters Doris and Patricia, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Swan-Law Funeral Directors Chapel.
