Joan Marie (Peterson) Burns was born in Winnebago NE to Leo and Evelyn (Feer) Schmitz on November 23, 1934 and passed away on February 10, 2014 in Colorado Springs CO.|
She was a Hallmark sales associate for many years and a very active volunteer, working with her husband at Care & Share food pantry, and Holy Family/St. Dominick's Church in Security.
She married Peter Peterson in 1953 and they raised their four children in California before moving the family to Colorado Springs. She married Kenneth Burns in 1977.
Joan loved Bunko and other games, jigsaw puzzles, crafts and cake decorating, traveling the country to see friends and family, dancing, music and playing with children, especially her grandchildren. Her caring nature drew many lifelong friends to her and she was active in many different local activities. As she declined with Parkinson's Disease, approximately 115 of her closest friends and family came together to celebrate her life and show their support for her.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth, sister Theresa, four children, Sandra Meadows, Randall, Jeffrey and Dennis Peterson and also her two step-daughters, Cathy Miller and Candace Furnish. Joan also had ten grandchildren; and soon would have welcomed her eleventh great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother, and two great grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed.
Viewing is Wed., Feb. 12 at 6:00 PM, funeral is Thurs., Feb. 13 at 10:00 AM, all at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home.
