East Junior was his first teaching assignment followed by a teacher/counselor position at Mitchell High School. Later, he became principal at Russell Junior High and Doherty High School, retiring as an Assistant Superintendent for District 11.
Family and friends were very important to him. Family gatherings and trips with his grandchildren as well as fishing, picnics (with the 3 R's) and card games with friends were especially cherished. Grandchildren knew he was in the stands for nearly every tennis match, or hockey, football or baseball game in which they participated.
Rick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley; daughters Karen I. Ricketts, Laura Watts (Bill); grandchildren Michael & Stephen Miller, Bryant & Jaclyn Watts; sisters Elizabeth Mary Anderson and Christina McGarry and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at Doherty High School Saturday March 8 at 2:00 pm.
