Maria Victoria "Vicki" (Gallegos) Cordova, age 98, a 56 year resident of the city, a Colorado native and former resident of the San Luis Valley, departed this life and went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 24, 2014. Mrs. Cordova was born on Monday, March 6, 1916 at El Rincon near Redwing, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Gallegos (1921) and Fernandita (Maes) Gallegos (1966) plus her late husband Alfred P. Cordova (1972).

Victoria was one of 13 children and the last living member of her immediate family. She is survived by many nieces and nephews on both the Cordova and Gallegos sides of the family. Survivors also include her two children Therese and Alfred (Al) Cordova and his wife Kathee of Colorado Springs, her two grandchildren Matthew Cordova (Andrea) of Reston, VA and Melanie Cordova Boykin (Anthony). Great-grandson Brennan of San Antonio, TX, plus great-grandson Braison of Arlington, TX.

Mrs. Cordova was a devout Catholic and is listed along with her late husband as one of the original founders and contributors to the creation of Saint Joseph Parish/Southgate here in Colorado Springs. Until the time that she took ill in 2006 she made it a point to attend daily mass.

She will be remembered for her cooking and baking skills, gardening and plant growing skills and the immaculate house and yard she kept until her health began failing her. For many years Victoria was also a domestic housekeeper for four households in the Broadmoor area. All were always impressed by her thoroughness and work ethic and cherished her as their employee. They simply considered her to be outstanding. She also was office cleaner for the former KYSN radio station for many years and was highly valued by the staff there.

She lived a complete and faith filled life always trusting in the Lord and his Blessed Mother to guide her. To honor her memory and in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church, 1830 South Corona Ave, Co Springs, CO 80905.

A rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, 1830 South Corona Ave.
