Eleanor V. Griffith, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, was born to Irven and Dorothy Hastings June 9, 1912.

She graduated from Colorado Springs High School ('31), attended Colorado College, and graduated from Colorado University in 1938.
Eleanor began her teaching career in Woodland Park. She was hired by Colorado Springs District #11, and taught 4th and 5th grades at Helen Hunt and Taylor Elementary Schools. In 1965 she was selected to attend the National Science Institute summer program at Oregon University.
Eleanor loved ice skating, tennis, dance, southwest studies, gardening and travel. She was a member of local skating clubs and the Denver Skating Club, and belonged to many organizations including AAUW, WES, Colorado College Fifty Year Club, Colorado Springs Horticulture Association, Fine Art Center, and P.E.O.
She is survived by daughter Lynne (David) Murray; grandson Eric (Charlene) Murray, granddaughter Stephanie (Nick) Hartshorn; and four great grandchildren; Sean, Dana, Kate, and Anne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George P. Griffith and a brother, Roy I. Hastings.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. A reception will follow the services at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Deacons Fund of First Presbyterian Church or Pikes Peak Hospice.
