LaVon was joyously welcomed to this earth by her parents, John M. Dreher and Gertrude L. (Karsting) Dreher, in Grand Island, Nebraska on May 20, 1922. At the age of 92, she departed peacefully on new wings the evening of May 31, 2014 in Colorado Springs, surrounded by her loving family, valued friends, and her incredible caregivers and neighbors at Life Care Center of Colorado Springs. She had thoroughly enjoyed residing in Manitou Springs since 1958.

A loving, generous, and compassionate person, she devoted herself to others as a registered nurse; a devoted wife to her husband, Earl; and as a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She graduated from St. Cecilia Catholic School in Hastings, Nebraska and earned her Nursing Degree in 1944 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She began her nursing career at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, then continued at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs from 1958 until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her cherished parents; her incredible husband, Earl C. Harper; and her treasured son, Dennis E. Harper.

She is survived by her daughter, Joy L. Harper (Michael Poynter) of Colorado Springs; her son, Randy A. Harper of Saipan, Mariana Islands; daughter-in-law, Sharry Harper of Colorado Springs; her grandchildren, Keith (Penny) Harper, Tammila (Erick) Wright, Benjamin and Molly Poynter, Leah and Katie Harper, Stacy (Randy) Collins, Lori (Jay) Sokol, Trent (Krista) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Sterling Nicole Cardin, Kyle Harper, Lexi Harper, Anela Wright, Ryan Collins, Jade Sokol, Breckyn Johnson; and Andy Wells, a well-loved and valued member of the family.

Visitation will be 5 to 8p.m. Thursday, June 5 at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs. Funeral services will be celebrated at 10a.m. Friday, June 6 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 218 Ruxton Ave., Manitou Springs, with burial at 1:30p.m. at Crystal Valley Cemetery, Manitou Springs. A reception will be held at 12:30p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 2105 W. Pikes Peak Ave.
