A FALLEN HERO: SSG. David R. Staats, age 30, CAV Scout Vehicle Commander with the 1st Cav, 7th U.S. Calvary, Fort Hood, Texas, died in Taji, Iraq on Saturday, December 16, 2006, after his armored vehicle was struck by an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED). David was born August 22, 1976 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He graduated from Cactus High School in Glendale, Arizona in 1995. David served over 9 years in the U.S. Army. David was a remarkable leader, husband, father, son & friend. His daughter now refers to him as her "American Angel". David proudly served 2 tours in Kosovo, a tour in Kuwait & was 7 weeks into his 2nd tour of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is truly a hero. He impacted every life he touched and he will be missed by all. David is survived by his wife, Meagan (Galloway) Staats and daughter, Katie of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by his son, Tyler, and parents Roger & Wanda Staats, of Glendale AZ; Mother and Father-in-Law, SFC (Ret) Homer and Cathy Galloway, Colorado Springs, CO, Brother-in-Law, CPO Marcus Galloway, Ft Meade, MD, and Sister-in-Law, Nichole Galloway, Seattle, WA. Funeral services for SSG David Staats will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 North Carefree Cir., Colorado Springs, CO. David will receive full military honors. He will be placed to rest at Evergreen Cemetery. All are welcome for the memorial services. A reception will follow celebrating David's life. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in SSG. David R. Staats name to assist other families of fallen or wounded military heroes.
