July 24, 1930 - July 11, 2008. James Robert Walton, age 77, affectionately known as "Bob" to family and friends passed away July 11, due to complications from pneumonia. He was born July 24, 1930 to Mary Jesse Bowers and James Walton. A lifelong native of Colorado Springs, Bob saw the world when he enlisted in the Navy on September 15, 1947. He served on the U.S.S. General Mann U.S.S. Boxer, receiving the Korean Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged on August 20, 1951, Bob returned to Colorado Springs and proposed to the girl across the street, Elizabeth L. Dzuris, or "Betty" as she was known to all. They married on August 9, 1952, enjoying 55 years together. Bob and Betty settled in Colorado Springs, where Bob worked for Meadow Gold Dairies. He loved the early morning hours while delivering milk to stores on the west side of Colorado Springs; summer camps, schools, and stores in the Woodland Park, Lake George, Victor, and Cripple Creek areas. Bob retired from Meadow Gold after 40 years of safe driving through Colorado's changing weather and seasons on July 24, 1992. He then worked part-time for Chief Petroleum until July 2007. Bob served three years on the Board of Directors for the Polka Club. During 1988-89, Bob and Betty were King and Queen. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church-Southgate. Bob and Betty proudly raised three children, Donald (Lynda) of Winnemucca, Nevada; Patty (Jim) MacMahon of Logan, Utah; and Michael (Karen) of Dickinson, North Dakota. His wife and children survive Bob. He also has five grandchildren, Jessica Pescio of Reno, Nevada; Jamie and Davey Walton of Winnemucca, Nevada; Paige and Katelyn Walton of Dickinson, North Dakota. A sister, Charlotte Williams, resides in Colorado Springs. Two nieces, Cindy (Dan) Montoya, and Diane (Frank) Shinrock, survive as well. A Rosary will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Southgate at 6:30PM, Sunday, July 20. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 21 at 10:00AM at St Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to either International Polka Club, 2422 Busch Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 or St. Joseph Catholic Church-Southgate, 1830 South Corona, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
