John Jay Lowery III Jay passed of natural causes at age 65 on August 15, 2010. Jay was born October 15, 1944 to John Jay Lowery Jr. and Rena Juanita (Kwist) Lowery in Colorado Springs, CO. Jay achieved the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America, as an Eagle Scout in 1958 at Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City, SD. In 1960 his family moved back to his mother's home town, Colorado Springs, and he graduated from Palmer High School in 1962. In 1966 he received his baccalaureate degree from Portland University in Portland, Oregon. In 1970 he joined the Colorado National Guard, 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces and stayed active until 1992 when he left the service as a Major. His father, who retired from the US Army as a Major, was particularly proud of his son's service. Jay Lowery was active with St. Mary's parish and the Westside community. He had a library of over 2000 books and participated with several book clubs in Colorado Springs. He enjoyed skiing throughout his life, once competing with the Colorado National Guard's biathlon team. Jay is survived by his daughter, Mary Suzanna Lowery, Anchorage, AK; three sisters, Kathleen Case (John), Los Angeles, CA; Jonell Davis, Denver, CO; Lorraine Mantz (Richard), CO; a brother, Greg Lowery (Julia), Lakewood, CO; three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Lowery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00pm, Tuesday, November 2, at St. Mary's Cathedral. He is interred at Ft.
