Luther DeLay Obituary

Luther Rondell DeLay, 70, of Colorado Springs, went to be with the Lord on July 1st 2012. Ron was born on September 23, 1941 in Carbon Hill, Alabama to the late Luther Atwood and Mattie Lou (Whitlock) DeLay. At the age of seventeen, Ron dropped out of school and joined the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1958 until 1962. Following his service, Ron lived in Redwood City, California until 1966 at which time the Lord directed him to Colorado Springs. In August of that same year, Ron came into a personal relationship with Christ which would change and shape his life forever. In 1968 he married his beloved wife, Barbara. After working for years in real estate brokerage and new home marketing for various real estate firms, Ron started a very successful real estate company with his business partner and friend, Ronn Langford called Langford-DeLay in 1974. Langford-DeLay engaged not only in real estate brokerage, but subdivision development, new home building and property management. Their firm developed such areas in Colorado Springs as the ‘Old Farm', ‘Eagle's Nest' and ‘Erindale Park' neighborhoods as well as projects in Cheyenne Mountain Ranch. They also built several townhomes and office buildings. In addition, Ron developed ‘Heritage' in the city of Fountain and ‘The Canyons at Broadmoor.' Ron enjoyed traveling and golf. Hawaii was a very special place for Ron throughout his life and a frequent destination for the family. Ron joined First Presbyterian Church in 1966 and served two terms as a Deacon and one term as an Elder/Trustee of the church. He enjoyed bible study and hosted, attended and led many throughout his life. Ron also sponsored many organizations such as Compassion International, Young Life and Campus Crusade for Christ. Ron is survived by his wife, Barbara; three wonderful children, Mark (Angelia), Heath (Charlotte) and Leah Brady (Jack); two cherished granddaughters, Olympia and Fiona; brothers, James, Larry and Jerry and sister, Bobbie. He is also survived by many great friends. Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley and infant son, Scott. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7th at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers please send donations to First Presbyterian Church c/o "Ron DeLay Memorial Fund," 219 E. Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Ron desired that a lay witnessing organization be formed at the church so that more people could be better prepared to spread the good news of God's salvation.

I met Ron long ago when my dad Clifford Dale Young worked for him. When I was in mortgage lending I had the pleasure of working with him on property financing. He was a truly nice man. My condolences to his wife and family.

Ron was a longtime friend and business associate, having sold me the lot I built my first home on in Colorado Springs. Since 1983 we had been friends and business associates completing many successful building projects together. Ron was always available with valuable insight and encouragement when I needed it. I will always remember the times we would meet for breakfast or lunch to discuss a project or just to catch up on what was going on in our lives. Cindy's and My hearts go out to Barbara and her wonderful family and I know that they will take comfort in the fact that Ron is in the Heaven he always knew existed. God Bless all of you.

Our thoughts & prayers are with you today.

Of the many people who helped all of us at Langford DeLay during the early days of our real estate careers, certainly Ron was a key! We remember with fondness his infectious laugh, his sense of calm, & his great negotiating skills. We also appreciate the fact that he & Ronn orchestrated a company that brought good people together - where so many friendships started & continue to this day! He will be missed.

The community of Colorado Springs has lost a dear friend. Ron's commitment to his faith, family and friends is an example everyone should learn from. His principals were never compromised and his passion always prevailed. Thanks Ron, for all you brought to our lives and may your spirit continue to grow in each and every one of us you touched throughout the years.
