Edna Mae Bryan passed away peacefully in a Colorado nursing home at the age of 84. A mother of three sons and a grandmother of five, Edna was born in Dunlap, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Vera Bolton. She spent her early years on a nearby family farm with three brothers, Wayne, Leonard and Jimmy and two sisters, Francis and Jo Ann. The family moved into town in her teen years. After graduating from Dunlap High School, Edna went to Omaha and briefly worked as a bookkeeper. She found the love of her life, David Bryan, back in Dunlap, and they were married in 1950 in the Little Brown Church in the Vale. Thereafter they moved to Colorado and resided briefly in Manitou while Dave was in the army. Her first son, Gary was born at the time, followed by Randy a year thereafter. The family relocated to the North side of Colorado Springs and Edna was very active in the East Methodist Church, PTA and Cub Scouts. Her third son, Scott, was born in 1959. Edna was always active, camping and fishing, learning to snow ski, water ski and bowl. She thoroughly enjoyed arts and crafts and cooking wonderful meals for her family. Edna's husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends were the focus and joy of her life. After her sons graduated from high school and college, she spent several years as a successful real estate agent. She and Dave traveled the US in their various campers and motorhomes and enjoyed their golden years. After celebrating her eightieth birthday on a Hawaiian cruise with all of her family, she sadly started to experience dementia. Edna was endlessly courageous in her trials. It was only in the last few months of their lives that Edna and Dave had to move from their last home of 33-years to an assisted living facility. Edna saw Dave pass away in March after 62 years of marriage. They were a loving couple to behold. Edna impressed us all with her positive and insightful comments on life, of people, of hope, of family. She is survived by Gary (Wendy), Randy (Aelee) and Scott (Theresa). She was Grandma to Andrea, Michael, Ellie, Eric and Wyatt. The family wishes to convey special thanks and appreciation to those who helped Edna enjoy her days until her last breath. A celebration of Edna Bryan's life a memorial service will be held November 8, 2012 at 11:00 am in the morning, 1st United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
