L. D. Harris, 78, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on December 26, 2013.|
L. D. was a Colorado Springs resident for more than forty years.
He was born January 13, 1935 in Madison County, Mississippi to the union of Catherine (Smith) Harris and Alonzo Harris. His parents preceded him in death as well as a sister Essielean Singleton.
He received his formal education in the Mississippi School System. He joined the United States Army and retired with 20 years of service achieving the rank of E7 and served during the Vietnam Conflicts receiving various awards; Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Bronze Star Medal and Sharpshooter Medal and many more.
He enjoyed fishing, Black History, reading politics, traveling and a member of NABVETS.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children; Catarina Ihnen, Loretta (Ricky) Lewis, Evelyn Harris, Essiclyn Harris, Elizabeth Underwood, Larae Johnson and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 from 3pm to 8pm, at Angelus Funeral Directors, 1104 S. Circle Dr., Colorado Springs, CO.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 3:00pm at Angelus Funeral Directors, 1104 S. Circle Dr., Colorado Springs, CO.
