Pauline Ann Rettig Lowery, 75, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on January 19, 2014. She was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in August 2009.|
She was born at home in Hanover, KS on February 20, 1938 to Paul and Helen (Allerheilligen) Rittig. During her younger years, she attended a one room school house. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1956.
On Nov. 21, 1959, Pauline married Benny Lowery in Lanham, KS. Benny's Air Force career took them across the country and to Germany. While in Germany, they were able to travel throughout Europe. The Air Force brought them to Colorado Springs in 1976. They enjoyed Colorado so much they decided to make it their permanent home.
Pauline loved life, her family, and most of all her 4 grandchildren Michael, Karen, Bennet and Justin. She stayed very involved in their lives, having them visit for a week during the summer. She also attended countless band concerts, cross country races, soccer, baseball and football games.
Pauline was the most energetic, hard working person you'd ever meet. She cherished life and made the most of every day. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and holiday celebrations, continuing to host them during her four year fight with cancer. She also kept busy by knitting baby hats for a hospital, going to the casino, shopping and making crafts. She continued to enjoy traveling, especially to Branson, MO and Arizona. Pauline was the heart of the Lowery family and will be greatly missed. She will also be missed by a great circle of friends.
Pauline is survived by her beloved husband, Ben of 54 years of marriage, daughters, Donna (David) Rooks, Glenda (Jim) Beemer, her four grandchildren, nephews, Ron (Marge) Schlabach and Darrell (Debbie) Schlabach and niece Cheri Flear.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Marvin (3 yrs old), Melvin Rettig, Delores Schlabach, and many aunts and uncles.
The Lowery family would like to give thanks to all of Pauline's physicians, and nurses at Penrose Hospital, Southern Colorado Oncology and Rocky Mountain Cancer Center.
A funeral service was held on Monday, January 27 in Hanover, KS.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on February 14, 2014 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2505 NO. Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, CO. Luncheon reception will follow service at Ascension Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is established to the Hanover City Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to Kingsley Mortuary, 1006 Broadway, Marysville, KS 66508.
