NORTHAMPTON. Thomas R. "Tapper" Poudrier, 73, of 28 Laurel St., passed away at home Sunday surrounded by his family.
Born in Northampton Jan. 21, 1939, Tapper was the son of the late Phillip and Myrtle (Pierce) Poudrier. He was educated in local schools and attended Smith Vocational High School. He was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1958.
Tapper was a welder and mechanic for several businesses in the area for many years, retiring in 1993. He later worked at the Williamsburg Transfer Station. Tapper also repaired lawn mowers and snow blowers for many years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and was a member of the NRA, the Chesterfield Four Season and the Hadley Young Mens' Club.
He is survived by his wife Betsy (Ryan) Poudrier; his daughters, Laurie Ryan and her husband Kevin of Florence and Shelly Walker of Haydenville; his three brothers, Philip Poudrier of Greenfield, Henry Poudrier of Melbourne, Fla., and Larry Poudrier of San Bernardino, Calif.; his sister, Pauline Sullivan of Grangeville, Idaho; his two grandchildren, Kyle and Kara Walker; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Maddie.
Tapper's Funeral will be Thursday morning 9 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in the Annunciation Chapel at 10 a.m., and burial with Military Honors in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Donations in Tapper's memory may be made to the VNA/Hospice if Cooley Dickinson, PO Box 329, Northampton, MA 01061, or to the Lathrop Home, 215 South St., Northampton, MA 01060.

Dear Betsy and family,
How sad for all of you to lose a husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. My dearest Betsy, Laurie, Shelly. We will miss Tom dearly,what a vital man he was who enjoyed life so much! Jim and I will always remember that fantastic smile when you walked into the room. I especially remember the family get togethers at my nieces Laurie and Shelly's when he would say here's Aunt Nancy !! What a guy,and god bless you all,we grieve with you!
