EASTHAMPTON - Rev. Francis (Frank) W. Groggett, 68, of Easthampton and Pastor of First Church in Ludlow, United Church of Christ, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in Northampton.
Frank was born July 10, 1944, in Boston, the son of the late Richard W., Sr., and Bessie (Howland) Groggett.
He attended schools in Boston and was a graduate of Boston English High School. Rev. Groggett received his master's of divinity at Bangor Seminary, Bangor, Maine, in 1994 and his bachelor's at University of Maine in 1997, and Spiritual Direction Certification at St. Thomas University, Miami, Fla., in 2001.
Prior to his ministry in Ludlow, Rev. Groggett was Senior Minister at Union Congregational Church, U.C.C., in West Palm Beach, Fla. from 1997 to 2006, Interim minister, Union Congregational Church, U.C.C., in Ellsworth, Maine, from 1995 to 1997, Co-Minister, First Congregational, U.C.C., in Calais, Maine, from 1993 to 1995, Associate Minister- Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, Hampden, Maine, from 1990 to 1993. He also held various leadership positions in industry and was a former owner and manager of a bed-and-breakfast inn in Wallingford, Vt.
Frank enjoyed baking, cooking, music, all things technical, working with his hands and heart, carpentry, bike riding and people. He will be remembered for his warm humor, his strong singing voice, his creativity, collegiality, zest for life and his dedication to the church and to God.
Rev. Groggett is survived by his wife Rev. Darla Dee Ledger, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Southampton, U.C.C., and his beloved children, four sons, twin sons Eli W. and Griffin T. Groggett at home, Scott Groggett and wife Christy of Idaho and Todd Groggett and wife Fanny of Hawaii; one daughter, Deborah Brown of Florida; one brother, Robert Groggett of South Weymouth; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by one son, Obed.
Memorial services will be Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the First Church in Ludlow, U.C.C., Ludlow, MA. A reception will follow at St. Elizabeth Parish, 181 Hubbard St., Ludlow. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Church in Ludlow Memorial Fund or the First Congregational Church of Southampton Memorial Fund, or to the Pastoral Excellence Program of the MACUCC, a program that supports and educates acting clergy and in which Rev.
