EAST LONGMEADOW - Anna M. (Pepper) Byrnes, 100 years and eight months old, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at home and in her own bed, just as she wished.
She was born in Springfield and shared a life with seven brothers and sisters, all of whom, with the exception of her brother Michael, predeceased her, as did her husband, Walter E. Byrnes.
Left behind to remember her and hope that they share the same gene pool are her daughters, Pat Byrnes of Northampton and Imelda (William) Daly of Virginia; two grandchildren, Monica (Drew) Welham and Dan (Eileen) Daly; two great-grandchildren, Sloane and Ian; her brother Michael Pepper; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She also will be missed by her grand-kitty, Suzie Q.
Anna's family would like to thank our friend Maxcine Hall for her extraordinary contribution to allowing Anna to live independently and for so long. Thanks also to Dr. James Freeman and his staff who really understood her.
Funeral services for Anna will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, with a period of visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. at Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Avenue, Springfield, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial will be private in Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northampton Vet Clinic (Helping Paws Fund), 227 South St., Northampton, MA 01060 or to the East Longmeadow Council on Aging, 328 N. Main St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028. www.hafeyfuneralservice.com.
