CAMDEN, N.Y. - Carolyn A. Tanguay, 90, of Camden, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rome.
She was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Camden, a daughter of Charles and Gertrude Osborne Palmeter.
On May 17, 1980, in Northampton, Mass., she married Albert Tanguay. He died July 14, 2005.
Carolyn was a graduate of Camden High School in 1941 and the class salutatorian. She lived in the Easthampton, Mass., area for 46 years, returning to Camden in 1987.
Carolyn was a real estate agent for 20 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. John's Church in Camden, Friends of Forest Park, and a civil rights advocate. Cats were like family to her. She enjoyed gardening, writing and poetry. Carolyn authored two poetry books, "Make Room for Me" and "Beacons and Bridges".
Surviving her are five daughters, Jill, Mary Ellen, Barbara, Anne and Cecilia, a son Gary, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are a sister Gertrude Blackwell of Ilion; a cherished niece Terry Watkins of Oneida; nephew Charles "Chuck" Palmeter of Sylvan Beach; and other nephews and dear friends Linda Dittmar and Larry Liddy.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Church in North Bay. Spring burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Camden. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main St., Camden, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rome Humane Society.
