Celia "Dutchie" (Kramer) August(1918 - 2013)

NATICK - Celia "Dutchie" Kramer August, 95, formerly of Northampton and Delray Beach, Fla., entered into rest Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing Home in Natick.

Born Feb. 19, 1918, in Greenfield, Dutchie was the daughter of the late Rubin and Minnie (Kronick) Kramer.

As a young woman Dutchie worked in the retail clothing business at Aliber's in Greenfield and then later in her life at Alberts in Northampton. Dutchie, "a friend to all," enjoyed a successful 20 year tenure as an administrative assistant to the director of early childhood special education for Northampton public schools. She developed many lifelong and dear friendships during that time.

"Grammie Dutchie" was devoted to her family. She adored and was adored by her seven grandchildren who warmly remember family and holiday gatherings on Maynard Road and Hatfield Street. She considered her greatest blessing to be the health of each one of her 12 handsome and beautiful great-grandchildren.

Dutchie is survived by her son Stephen and his wife Marcia; daughter Linda; daughter-in-law Nancy; sister Rita Winer; her loving companion of 15 years Morris Gould; and many devoted nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband George, beloved son Robert and brothers Jack and Harvey Kramer.

Dutchie was a lifelong member of Congregation B'nai Israel. She was an active member of the congregation and a founding member and past president of Hadassah and Sisterhood. Dutchie was also a member of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxillary and spent many years volunteering at the hospital welcoming visitors and preparing food in the snack bar.

Funeral services for Dutchie will be held Sunday, May 5, at 1, at Congregation B'nai Israel Synagogue in Northampton. Burial will follow at the Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery.

Donations in Dutchie's memory can be made to the New England Wild Flower Society Sanctuary Fund at NASAMI Farm, 180 Hemenway Road, Framingham, MA 01701 (in memory of Dutchie and Bob August) or to the Cancer Connection, 41 Locust St., Northampton, MA 01060 (in memory of Dutchie August.)
