HATFIELD- Charles J. "Yago" Yagodzinski Jr., 60, of King Street in Hatfield, retired Massachusetts State Police Sergeant, passed away on Friday morning at Cooley Dickinson hospital after being stricken at home.
Charlie was born in Hatfield on July 12, 1952, the son of the late Charles J. Yagodzinski Sr. and Rosalie Rowley of Connecticut. He was a lifelong Hatfield resident, growing up in Hatfield and graduating from Smith Academy. He received his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College.
He served as a Massachusetts State Police Trooper, retiring in January 2007. He served in the MSP Photograph Dept. from 1977 to 1995. Charlie served at several Barracks including Pittsfield, Shelburne, Russell, Cheshire and the Mass Turnpike. He retired from Troop B here in Northampton after 33 years of service.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Hatfield. Charlie loved spending time with his family, especially traveling and vacationing to Florida with his wife, Dorothy.
Charlie was a diehard Red Sox fan. His laugh and sense of humor were contagious and you knew when he was in the room. He enjoyed his Sunday trips to the Turkey Shoots. Charlie was a great carpenter and was always there to help family and friends with projects.
He leaves his mother, Rosalie Rowley; his loving wife, Dorothy (Doppman) Yagodzinski of Hatfield; his children; Katie Yagodzinski of Hatfield, Jennifer Maloney and her husband Steve of Hatfield, Shelley Kopcza and her husband Bobby of Whately and his son, Massachusetts State Police Trooper, Jason Yagodzinski of Hatfield. He also leaves two grandchildren, Riggins and Danica Kopcza; his brother, John Yagodzinski and his wife Christine of Hatfield and several nieces and nephews and his many longtime friends.
Calling hours at the Czelusniak Funeral Home will be Monday afternoon from 4 to 7 p.m. The family invites you to join them on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church in Hatfield to celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial for Charlie. Following Cremation the family will scatter Charlie's ashes privately. Donations in Charlie's memory may be made
