NORTHAMPTON - David Francis Yarrows, 79, of Pilgrim Drive, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at his home.
Born July 31, 1933, in Hadley, he was the son of the late Elias and Julia (Tolper) Yarrows.
He grew up and went to school in Hadley then graduated from Smith Vocational High School.
David retired after 30 years of service at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Leeds. He was also a farmer and loved growing his asparagus. David was a member of the Deputy Sheriffs Association, the Knights of Columbus Council 1619 and the Northampton Lodge of Elks #997.
David leaves his wife, Mary (Harrington) Yarrows; five sons, David of Powell, Ohio, James of Chicopee, John of Hatfield, Patrick of Wilbraham and Dennis of Northampton; three daughters, Mary Achor of East Lyme, Conn., Theresa Yarrows of Northampton and Margaret Lindquist of Holden; three brothers, Leonard of Northampton, Paul of Easthampton and Edward of Enfield, Conn.; his sister, Martha Nault of Holyoke; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his son, Daniel; his daughter, Julie; and a brother, Elias W. Yarrows.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton. The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on King Street in Northampton, and burial at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Hadley.
David's family requests no flowers be sent. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
