FLORENCE - Donald L. Ferry, of Ryan Rd., Florence, passed away Dec. 14, 2012.
He was born in Middleboro, Ky., the son of the late Harvey and Jannet (Enix) Ferry.
As a child, Donald moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of the Dixie-Hollins High School in St. Petersburg.
Donald was a life long learner who would take college courses as he traveled throughout the country as a young man.
Donald was a U.S. Army
veteran, serving as a medic during the Vietnam Era, and had been stationed in several European countries.
Donald settled in the Northampton in 1990 where he has lived ever since. He had been employed for many years at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Leeds, retiring from there in 1999 as the Director of Information Technology. Donald had also been employed for four years at the former HCAC in Northampton.
Donald had attended services at the Bible Baptist Church in Florence. He was an avid reader and historian, and had a special interest in the Bible.
He leaves his beloved wife of 41 years, Janice (Bostjancic) Ferry; his loving daughter Michele L. Sharac of Florence; his cherished granddaughter Natalie M. Sharac; his caring sister Sue Forholt of Mt. Dora, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Donald was predeceased by his brother Richard Ferry.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
The O'Brien Funeral Home of Easthampton has been entrusted with all arrangements.
