NORTHAMPTON- Dorothy Adele Elkins, 89, of Northampton, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at Linda Manor, Leeds. Born in 1923, the fourth daughter of Sarah and Charles Lamken of Lynn, Mass., she graduated from Boston University. She moved with her husband and children to Northampton in 1960. She volunteered at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton Survival Center, League of Women Voters, and Bridge St. School. She was secretary to the Religion and Philosophy Departments at Smith College for six years.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley Elkins of Northampton; her children, Susan Elkins and husband Jack Winerock of Lawrence, Kan., Reuven Elkins and wife Yehudis Elkins of Brooklyn, N.Y., Barbara Elkins and husband Timothy Brown of Lawrenceville, N.J. and Sara Elkins of Northampton. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 3pm at B'nai Israel Congregation, 253 Prospect St., Northampton, and interment will follow at B'nai Israel Cemetery, 476 N. King St., Hatfield.
